Rise of the red sun

Looking at the rays of light coming from above, it begs to question what exactly is then the red sun the man seems to be watching. And if it were the sun literally, what is there above, then..? Then again, the appearance of dragon suggests that is not from the real world, hence no rules it may have apply, leaving at least me wondering different options the alternatives for light sources in this. In any case, very nicely done picture, leaving that man in a side role to watch the wonders that nature in there has to offer.
